Janna Taylor's Accomplishments
Janna Taylor's major fault is that she does not tell people about her accomplishments. We were both first elected for the 2005 session and I want people to know her strengths.
In 2005 Representative Taylor was chosen by our leadership to serve on the Appropriations Committee. This is a sought after committee by legislators, even though it is probably the most work. The Appropriations Committee is in charge of the "check book" with House Bill 2, the major funding bill for State Government. She demonstrated her capabilities and understanding of the state budget. She understood the fiscal notes and was helpful in explaining to the rest of the freshmen legislators.
During our second session, Janna was promoted to Vice-Chair of House Appropriations. She chaired the General Government the Transportation Joint Sub-Committee. Again, we relied on her knowledge of the budget and the budgeting procedures.
During our first session, I served on the Justice Committee and heard Janna present a bill to help victims of domestic violence or stalking keep their addresses undisclosed. For that committee she also spoke in favor of the death penalty, for herself and for Lake County's former Senator Ethel Harding.
The Flathead area legislators worked together to secure funding for water monitoring, and Representative Taylor lead this effort, just as she did in 2005. In 2009 she carried Senator Jackson's invasive species bill through the House. We are all concerned about our water quality. Janna also passed two bills in the House concerning the Clark Fork River Basin Task Force and their work to secure Hungry Horse Reservoir water for Montana.
Still, her real expertise lies in her knowledge of the budget, the state debt, and state agency funding. She brings a business approach to our state and to the taxpayers of Montana. She works for the people of Montana and not the special interest groups. I look forward to working with Janna again.
